We found this cool little campsite right on the sea front; such an awesome place to wake up.
I read somewhere that ‘The Great Taste Trail’ was a must do while in Nelson. It’s 174km of cycle path supposedly lined with quirky cafes, boutique breweries and some of the finest wineries in New Zealand. Say no more, we hired bikes and hopped on to a small section of the trail for a foodie and boozy day out.
After an hour of cycling and no sign of a water fountain let alone a pub we began to get thirsty and disheartened.
Until we met this very friendly kiwi farmer who cheered us up temporarily.
The incredible views took our minds off the lack of pubs for a while too.
We ended up on a mountain bike track which was, to downplay it, horrific. I can’t believe people do that for fun, I would rather hoover all day long.
Two hours after initially setting off we hit the first (and last) pub. Luke commented on how quickly I dropped my bike and got to the bar to which I replied “This is supposed to be a Great Taste Trail, I’m starving and parched!” To which an elderly women stood up and shouted “Good for you dear!”. What a babe.
